Supporting our brain with good, brain-boosting nutrition as well as supportive supplementation will put you on a path to long-term brain health improvements.
Over the last few years, the Mediterranean Diet has shown a variety of benefits when it comes to brain health.
While we do not endorse a specific diet with our Sharp Mind System; there is growing evidence that the Mediterranean diet is an ideal choice when it comes to brain health. This could be attributed to the antioxidant polyphenols obtained from the wide range of plant foods and quality fats found in the Mediterranean diet.
The polyphenols we obtain from ingesting plant-based foods are potent antioxidants that have been shown to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier to address neuroinflammation by inhibiting pro-inflammatory chemicals (Eg. IL-6, TNF-α and NF-κB).
Polyphenols have also been shown to help increase cerebral blood flow, induce hippocampal neurogenesis and plasticity, improve brain white-matter integrity and spatial learning, and increase locomotor activity.
Furthermore, another compelling 2021 study, which followed more than 5,000 participants over two decades, found that following a strict Mediterranean diet may keep the brain almost six years younger!
